Final Days for Free Tire Drop-Off at HWMA
Attention Community Members:
The free tire drop-off period at the Humboldt Waste Management Authority transfer station, located at 1059 W. Hawthorne Blvd. in Eureka, is nearing its end. HWMA anticipates exhausting the grants remaining funds in the next few weeks based on data and spending trends.
Please be aware that once the grant funds are depleted, tire disposal fees will resume at the standard rate of $9 per tire for car and light truck sizes.
104 Tons of Tires Diverted From Landfill
California has more registered vehicles than any other state. As a result, more than 51 million reusable and waste tires are generated each year. (calrecycle.ca.gov)
Thanks to your incredible response, this grant has allowed HWMA to collect 6,700 tires at no cost to the community. That's an impressive 207,000 pounds or 104 tons of tires kept out of landfills! Together, Humboldt County has saved over $61,000 in tire fees.
Program Details Reminder:
- Up to 9 tires accepted for free per day.
- Eligible tires: Car size up to light truck size.
- Tires on rims are accepted.
- Not Eligible: Tire sellers, installers, registered tire haulers, or those involved in illegal dump cleanups.
