Solid Waste
Solid waste is handled by a variety of different governmental, for-profit
and non-profit organizations in Humboldt County. We work with these
different organizations to handle our local waste. We operate a
transfer station and a household hazardous waste
collection facility in Eureka, and sponsor mobile
household hazardous waste collection events throughout Humboldt County.
For information on household garbage and recycling collection services in your area, please see our curbside collection page.
Please reduce, reuse and recycle when you can. It's easy to recycle much of your household waste at your curbside or at various recycling centers (who often accept many more items for recycling than curbside). You can find detailed information on specific materials and where they can be recycled at humboldtrecycling.org.
Please handle hazardous waste carefully--it is called hazardous because it is hazardous and can cause harm to you, other people and our environment if not handled and disposed of safely. Please see our hazardous waste page for more information on safe disposal options. We encourage you to use safer alternatives to reduce the amount of hazardous waste you generate and come into contact with.
