Recycle home-generated used oil and oil filters at our Household Hazardous Waste Facility. Next time you drop off your oil at the hazmat facility, ask the attendant for a free oil change container. We provide these for free to the public while we have them in stock.
There are also many other locations in Humboldt County where you can recycle clean, recyclable used oil and filters. Contaminated oil is only accepted at the hazardous waste facility. See the other locations listed below.
Businesses that need to recycle oil or filters must schedule an appointment with the Household Hazardous Waste Facility (707-441-2005).
What is your true oil change interval? The 3,000 mile oil change standard is very outdated. Most vehicles manufactured after 1999 can go much longer before needing an oil change. Follow this link to see your vehicle's actual interval: https://www2.calrecycle.ca.gov/UsedOil/ChangeInterval/
